On 24 February 2026, the closing event of the research and development program of the National Laboratory for Autonomous Systems (NLAS) took place in Budapest, at the HUN-REN SZTAKI building on Kende Street. Following the official part of the event, autopro.hu had the opportunity to interview Dr. Péter Gáspár, head of the Systems and Control Research Laboratory at HUN-REN SZTAKI, which provided professional leadership for NLAS. The expert revealed the challenges that still lie ahead for the spread of self-driving cars, as well as the role that today's cars could play in the spread of autonomous vehicles.

The research and development program of the National Laboratory for Autonomous Systems (NLAS) has been completed, which for more than four years has been investigating the safe, fast and sustainable operation of autonomous vehicles, robots and drones that operate without human intervention. The aim of the project was to make future transport and industrial systems more reliable, energy-efficient and safer for everyone.

Discovery's series Made In with Csaba Gyetván visited HUN-REN SZTAKI’s Systems and Control Lab (SCL) to showcase the developments related to autonomous systems taking place there. The solutions presented are capable of predicting dangerous situations, adapting to changes in the environment, and operating safely and reliably even in real, complex conditions.

Researchers of HUN-REN SZTAKI gave a presentation on drone Vehicle-in-the-loop simulation at the scientific conference entitled Robotic Warfare and Cyber Security 2025, organized by the Faculty of Military Science and Officer Training of the Ludovika University of Public Service on 3 December 2025.

Researchers Gyula Sólyom and Gergely Kuna from the System and Control Laboratory of HUN-REN SZTAKI (Institute for Computer Science and Control) have successfully conducted a live demonstration of a hydrogen-powered multicopter drone at the Hungarian Defence Forces’ Ócsa Training Base.
