On 20th October 2022, the maiden flight of the brand new DJI M300 drone of SZTAKI (purchased in frame of the Autonomous Systems National Laboratory) was done.

After the maiden flight exploration flights with LIDAR and multispectral camera sensors were executed. The flight day was performed with the participation of Systems and Control , Computational Optical Sensing and Processing and Machine Perception Research Laboratories .

The maiden and exploration flights were flawless, the system performed well. In the future this drone will be applied in several research tasks:

  1. Mapping of unknown areas for unmanned ground vehicles
  2. Foreign object (debris) search with multispectral camera
  3. Camera-based estimation of vehicle motion parameters
