This year, for the seventh time, the BME Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering (BME KJK) organised the event, which offered an exciting programme for those interested in transport, automotive, logistics and aeronautics.

BME's lecturers and researchers gave a brief overview of the specialisation in vehicle mechatronics and career opportunities. In addition to the model vehicles of the BME Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering (BME KJK), the autonomous experimental vehicle platform of ARNL was presented.

Bálint Vanek, senior researcher at HUN-REN SZTAKI’s Systems and Control Lab and lead researcher of ARNL, delivered a Flutter Control Workshop at Airbus UpNext, the advanced research and innovation division of Airbus, in Toulouse, France. The workshop focused on key insights from the successful flight demonstrations of active flutter suppression carried out in the framework of the FLEXOP and FliPASED H2020 projects and the methodologies that supported these outcomes. The presentation also underlined the projects’ influence on flight safety and their recognition by EASA experts.

Bálint Vanek, senior researcher at HUN-REN SZTAKI’s Systems and Control Lab and lead researcher of ARNL, delivered a technical presentation at ONERA – The French Aerospace Lab in Toulouse, titled: “Future Perspectives of Active Flutter Suppression Technologies Based on Recent Flight Tests”. The presentation provided an overview of the experimental flight campaigns carried out as part of FLEXOP and FliPASED H2020 research projects, emphasizing the world-first active flutter suppression flight tests successfully executed by a consortium of leading European aerospace institutions: HUN-REN SZTAKI, TUM, DLR, and ONERA.

Bálint Vanek, senior researcher at HUN-REN SZTAKI’s Systems and Control Lab and lead researcher of ARNL, participated as a jury member and official rapporteur in a PhD defence at ISAE-Supaero (Higher Institute of Aeronautics and Space) in Toulouse, France. The thesis, titled “Nonlinear Estimation of High Aspect Ratio Aircraft Using Nonlinear Deformation Formulations,” explored estimation strategies for high aspect ratio wings, focusing on advanced nonlinear modelling and observer design – topics that have direct relevance to HUN-REN SZTAKI’s and ARNL’s research on wing shape estimation and active aeroelastic control.

As part of the TKP21-NVA project entitled "Research of Hydrogen-Powered, Cooperative, Unmanned Remote Sensing Devices and the Associated Data Processing Framework", developers Zalán Simon and Botond Gaál tested the indoor positioning system of the Husky unmanned ground vehicle.

Csanád Budai and Tamás Széles, researchers at the National Laboratory for Autonomous Systems (ARNL), coordinated by HUN-REN SZTAKI, competed in Milan at the 22nd F1TENTH Autonomous Grand Prix, held during the 2024 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC 2024), between 16-19 December 2024.

Researchers and developers of ARNL promoted the automotive engineering education with a career guidance programme on 29 November 2024 at the Open Day of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), which attracted more than 6,000 interested students.
