4TH BUDAPEST GRAND PRIX OF REFORMULA CHALLENGE INNOVATION COMPETITION

With the Autonomous Systems National Laboratory (ARNL) as a professional Sponsor, the 4th REFORMula Challenge Innovation Competition for Students – organized by the Mission for Engineers Foundation – will take place on 16 April 2024 within the framework of the professional day of the Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). In the competition, teams of high school and university students will match their knowledge, skills and design abilities in topics related to autonomous systems as well as their religious knowledge.

ARNL PARTICIPATED IN THE STIPENDIUM HUNGARICUM EVENT

The Tempus Public Foundation organised the International Conference of Stipendium Hungaricum Partners in Budapest on 20-22 November 2023. In the conference programme, a special place was given to the presentation of Hungarian higher education institutions and scientific research institutions, such as the Hungarian National Laboratories. Two national laboratories, the Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory and the National Laboratory of Autonomous Systems, both lead by HUN-REN SZTAKI, were also introduced at the event.

US Air Force Office of Scientific Research supports ARNL researchers' basic research project for solving challenging machine perception tasks

The ARNL researchers' project proposal entitled "Distinguishing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from birds and other flying objects in 3D LiDAR point clouds" has been awarded a grant from the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The winning research team consists of László András Majdik, PhD, Tamás Szirányi, DSc, Gábor Kovács, PhD, and Anita Keszler, PhD.

Orientation in focus

In case of mapping and object reconstruction tasks besides the calibration of the camera parameters evaluation of the precision of other system parameters (especially the orientation of drone and gimbal) is also important. Researchers of the HUN-REN SZTAKI, who are also active in the ARNL, designed and organized specialized flight tests in ZalaZONE Smart City to evaluate DJI M300 and Zenmuse P1 orientation precision.
