HUN-REN SZTAKI awaited its visitors with ten different programs, including a drone parade, demonstration of an autonomous land vehicle, an interactive blockchain simulation, demonstrations involving robots, age-clocks, and a baby monitoring system, as well as a computer hardware history exhibition, at the Researchers' Night 2023 on 29 September. Several of these programmes and demonstrations were directly related to ARNL projects and research carried out at ARNL.
Programmes ran continuously from 2 pm to 9 pm. During this period, more than 300 visitors were able to learn about some interesting and/or spectacular aspects of engineering through interactive sessions. In the Innovation and Demonstration Area of the institute, ARNL and HUNREN SZTAKI researchers and developers gave a number of demonstrations. Among other computer-based systems, a portrait drawing robot, a packing robot, a component assembly robot and an autonomous environment mapping vehicle were on display. The visitors could get a close, occasionally a hands-on experience with these robots and vehicles. The mentioned programmes and demonstrations were also linked to the festive programme of the European Robotics Week.
The drone parade, held in one of the labs, was also a great success, with tiny, pre-programmed drones performing complex flight manoeuvres, taking up elegant formations and dancing according to some swirling aerial choreography. The programme also featured a blockchain simulator, which brought visitors' smartphones into play/demonstration. The younger generation was introduced to devil's play and logic games. They could use the concrete games, or the digital versions of these. In the lobby of the institute, young people who are used to smaller sized electronic devices and older people who felt nostalgic for old electronic devices could visit the HUN-REN SZTAKI hardware history exhibition and listen to a lecture given by an expert.
